My First Month as a Published Author and What’s Up Next

I just realized today marks exactly one month since I published “Nusayba Knows Her Worth.” Self-publishing has been a daunting and rewarding experience. Alhamdulillah.

With minimal, organic promotion, I was pleasantly surprised by how many people purchased and continue to purchase my first book. Thank you all sincerely for supporting me.

One thing I hadn’t prepared for was the community interest in having me read my book aloud to children’s groups, as a local author. I feel truly humbled by these opportunities and cherish them. This month I’ll be visiting three different masajid to engage with youth.

I do not take these engagements lightly. I consider them an important responsibility and it is my goal to continuously improve my programming and curriculum for these sessions.

My readings center around three major goals:

1. Talking to Muslim children about developing a healthy sense of self-worth and confidence from an Islamic lens

2. Getting kids to think about the stories and meanings behind their names and developing a sense of pride in those names. This contributes to their sense of self.

3. Inspiring Muslim kids to learn about figured in Islamic history and to realize that they too will be a part of this illustrious history. My belief is that understanding their place in a centuries long, beautiful tradition will also contribute to their overall self-worth.

I plan to continue doing these engagements as long as you all keep inviting me and welcome feedback on how to make them better.

As many of you know, “Nusayba Knows Her Worth” is just the beginning of my journey. I have two unique books I plan to release this Fall in sha Allah. One is “Are Butterflies in the Qur’an?” and I will announce the second title as soon as the book cover is ready for sharing! I’m biased, but I think they’re really good ma sha Allah! I am fortunate to work with illustrators who get my vision and are able to bring my stories to life.

Aside from these, I am writing a couple more children’s picture books and am 25% done with the first draft of a novel. But I’m not ready to talk about these yet!

I hope you’ll all be hanging around for my journey.

Thank you for your patronage!
